Letter-size sheets
How to automatically tile a seamless pattern into an 8.5x11 sheet
Choose an 8.5 × 11 inch sheet in VinylMaker, set the size of one repeat, and export a Production PNG. The app fills the sheet automatically, producing a 2550 × 3300 pixel layout at 300 pixels per inch.
From one tile to a finished sheet
-
Import your seamless pattern
In the Pattern Library, choose Upload Patterns and import your square PNG tile. Use the original artwork file rather than a screenshot or product listing preview. The tile should already repeat cleanly at all four edges.
-
Set up an 8.5 × 11 inch sheet
Create a sheet from the imported pattern and choose an 8.5 × 11 inch sheet size in the Designer. If that size is missing, add it in Settings with a width of 8.5 inches and height of 11 inches, then return to the sheet.
-
Choose how large the pattern should repeat
Set Tile Size to the physical width of one repeat. For example, use 2 inches at 100% scale for a smaller repeat. Start with rotation at 0° and offsets at zero so you can inspect a simple grid before adjusting the design.
-
Review the edges and save
Check that the repeat looks continuous and that the motifs are the size you want. Partial tiles at the outside edges are normal: the pattern fills the sheet and is cropped at its boundary. Give the sheet a useful name and choose Save sheet.
-
Export a Production PNG
Choose Export, select Production PNG, and finish the export. The exact artwork dimensions are 2550 × 3300 pixels. Save any later design changes before exporting again.
-
Print at the intended physical size
Open the production file in your print software, set its size to 8.5 × 11 inches, and disable Fit to page or other automatic scaling. Use media supported by your printer and make a test print before a full run.
Sheet size stays fixed. Repeat size is your choice.
A 2 inch repeat at 100% scale fits 4.25 times across an 8.5 inch sheet and 5.5 times down an 11 inch sheet. That means some motifs are cropped at the edge. You do not need a whole number of repeats to make a continuous, full-sheet layout.
To make the motif larger, increase Tile Size. To show more repeats on the same sheet, decrease it. Avoid resizing the final exported sheet just to change motif size, because that also changes the physical print dimensions.
Before you print on letter-size vinyl
A full-size file does not make a printer borderless. If your printer has unprintable margins, decide whether to accept those margins or use a supported borderless workflow. Automatic shrink-to-fit changes both the sheet size and the motif size.
Use PNG for this exact-page workflow. A production PDF can include a label footer that makes the total page taller than the artwork. Also check the source resolution: a 2 inch tile should ideally contain at least 600 × 600 pixels for a 300 pixel-per-inch print.
Common questions
How do I automatically tile a seamless pattern into an 8.5x11 sheet?
Import a square seamless tile, create a sheet from that pattern, and select an 8.5 × 11 inch sheet size. Add the size in Settings if it is missing. Set the tile size, review the repeat, save the sheet, and export a Production PNG. Print at 8.5 × 11 inches with automatic fit-to-page scaling disabled.
Will VinylMaker make a non-seamless image seamless?
No. VinylMaker automates repeating an existing pattern tile. If the left and right edges or top and bottom edges do not match, those joins repeat too. Repair the source artwork in an image editor before importing it.
